modLight E39/E38/E53

The module carries out two-way communication with your BMW, i.e. reads actions activated by pressing the key or the ignition and sends digital BMW commands. We are trying to produce modules with functions as close as possible to an OEM functions from newer BMW models. It is available for BMW:

5 series-E39 (all features),
7 series-E38 (all features),
X5 (E53) (all features except automatic unlock on turning off motor and automatic folding/expanding wing mirrors)..

All LCM and GM modules are compatible. The modLight installation in car is really simple. You must connect three wires only.
You must connect modlight’s 3 wires to: direct 12V source, GND (ground) and IBUS wire. All this wires can be found in many locations in your car.

Once you connect those three wires to your car, the modLight2 module is ready to use. It has simple two buttons user interface which you can use for enable/disable or configure the functions. The user menu is very close to the HIGH IKE hidden menu, but it is even more user friendly and easy to use.
ModLight2 module adds the following functions to your BMW E39/E38/E53 car:

  1. When you unlock your car by clicking Unlock button on the remote key it starts function “Unlock Welcome Lights” which will make one of the following:
    a) starts parking lights for 10/15/20/25 seconds and at the end it ads the turn signals too for 1 second. You can add the foglamps to this cycle too.
    or
    b) starts the high beams + fog lamps + reverse lights for 10/15/20/25 seconds and then turns off.
    or

    or
    b) starts the high beams + fog lamps + reverse lights for 10/15/20/25 seconds and then turns off.

  5. Cornering lights or triple blinker. You can choose one of the following functions to be enabled:
Cornering lights: When you turn on your left blinker, the modlight module turns on your left fog light. If you turn your right blinker, modLight module turns off the left fog light and turns on the right fog light. The function is available only when your low beams are turned on and only when you are driving with lower speed then 40km/h.
    or
Triple blinker – when this function is enabled and when you click the left blinker (turn signal) to blink once, your modLight2 will add 2/3/4 additional blinks.
*Please note that the Triple blinker feature is experimental, so please don’t expect it to work perfectly, it fails from time to time. Unfortunately the IBUS was not designed to do so much functions and it is important to understand this. If you want to have all this feature working like from the factory, just buy BMW produced after 2009 🙂 .
  6. Welcome message – when you engage the key to position IGN (ACC2) modLight2 module will send a message who will be displayed on the HIGH IKE dashboard. You can see the available messages here: Welcome messages available in modLight2
You can enable or disable this function from the user interface of the modLight2 module.
  7. Auto lock when your car reaches 16km/h and auto-unlock when you turn off the engine.
This function  can be coded to your original GM module with BMW scanner, NCS Expert or any other coding software, but there is older E39 cars which doesn’t have this function available and thats why we added this function to our modLight2 module. Please use this function only if it is not possible your car to be recoded for OEM automatic locking function (E39 before produced 1997).
  8. Auto unlock when you turn the motor off. When this function is enabled, your modLight2 module will automatic unlock your car (if locked) when you turn the motor off.
  9. Automatic side mirrors folding by the remote key.
This function allows you to choose when you want to automatic fold your side mirrors.
You can set it to fold your mirrors:
    a) on every single lock
    b) on long press of the lock button
    c) on double press of the lock button
  10. Automatic side mirrors expand by the remote key.
This function allows you to choose when you want to automatic expand the side mirrors if folded:
    a) on unlock
    b) on enaging key to ACC2 (IGN) position
